Porous Graphite
Porous & TaC-Coated Porous Graphite for High-Temperature, Corrosion-Resistant Applications
Porous graphite is graphite engineered with an interconnected network of pores rather than a fully dense structure. That pore network is not a defect to be minimized — in applications like SiC PVT crystal growth, it is the functional feature: porous graphite components act as a distribution hub inside the hot zone, balancing gas flow, isolating trace impurities, and reducing carbon encapsulation and particle interference. The result is more uniform crystal growth conditions and measurably higher usable crystal thickness without sacrificing quality.
Semicera supplies porous graphite in both uncoated and TaC-coated forms. Uncoated porous graphite serves general high-temperature, gas-permeable, and electrically conductive applications; TaC-coated porous graphite adds tantalum carbide's exceptional corrosion and oxidation resistance on top of the substrate's porosity, extending service life in aggressive chemical or ultra-high-temperature environments where bare graphite would degrade too quickly.

Fields of Application
- ● SiC single-crystal (PVT) growth — gas flow distribution and impurity isolation in the crucible/hot zone
- ● High-temperature, high-pressure, corrosion-resistant sealing (TaC-coated grades)
- ● Chemical processing equipment exposed to acids, alkalis, and other aggressive media
- ● Metallurgy and glass production hot-zone components
- ● Filtration and gas diffusion systems
- ● Electrodes in electrochemical cells and energy storage systems
- ● Aerospace and other ultra-high-temperature structural applications
Why Source Porous Graphite from Semicera
- ● Crystal-growth-grade expertise — our porous graphite is developed alongside our SiC and TaC coating product lines, so pore structure and purity are engineered specifically for PVT/MOCVD hot-zone performance, not adapted from a generic industrial graphite grade.
- ● Coated or uncoated, one supplier — choose bare porous graphite or TaC-coated porous graphite for corrosive/ultra-high-temperature duty, without switching vendors.
- ● Multiple geometries — rod, tube, plate, and ring forms available as standard, with custom dimensions on request.
- ● Full technical support — our team can help match pore size distribution, coating thickness, and geometry to your specific furnace or process conditions.
